Poster Presentation
Each year, NJAMC encourages students to present at our annual conference by offering something called a "poster presentation". For many students who have not had the opportunity to attend professional conference previously, questions arise as to what this type of presentation entails.
A poster presentation is a simple way to visually present any research that you have done while working toward your graduate degree. Because we define "multiculturalism" quite broadly, many, many topics apply. Most students find this type of presentation to be creative, relaxed and comfortable, since it does not require oral presentation in a traditional workshop or seminar format.
Instead, research data is attached to a 3-sided, fold-out "poster", which can be purchased inexpensively from most any office supply store. How this information is presented is entirely up to the student. It can be in the form of a bullet pointed outline, can incorporate graphs or charts, or can be represented pictorially - the choice is yours! The poster then sits on a table at the conference, often accompanied by handouts that present further information on your research topic, and students are available at their poster during certain times to informally discuss their topic with any conference attendees who stop by the table.
This is a great way to simultaneously add "conference presenter" to your resume without the pressure of public speaking, and take to take advantage of the opportunity to meet and network with others practicing in the field.
If you have an interest in presenting, simply complete and submit the "Call for Poster Proposals" form or feel free to call or email Beth Fier if you have additional questions or would like further guidance on how to transform your work into a poster.
